Konstantine Karavasilis says LifeBridge Health’s Sinai Hospital gave him his life back. While on his way to work in 2014, he was hit by a large delivery truck that had run a red light. He had a brain injury, a broken collarbone, and a damaged rotator cuff and needed facial reconstruction after losing the use of his eye. His wife and mother helped him research the best hospital for his physical therapy and rehabilitation. “Sinai had such a great reputation and was close to home so family could visit,” he says. “It seemed meant to be.”

In thanks for the compassionate and comprehensive care he received at Sinai, Konstantine has made a bequest to the hospital of a percentage of his estate. “That’s the only way I could show gratitude and appreciation for helping me walk, eat, talk, and even take a shower again on my own,” he says. “As you can imagine, there were some very dark days—but the staff were so personable. It was truly a part of my healing process.”

He is thankful for the speech, occupational, and physical therapists at Sinai. “I was miserable to be around because I had constant pain, but everyone was so friendly, patient, and caring.” His accident was a wake-up call that every moment is a blessing and inspired Konstantine to create his estate plan. He says that a percentage bequest is the easiest way to leave your legacy and divide support among charities that have meaning to you.

“At Sinai, it’s more about helping people than prestige or money. It’s the small things in the culture there that mean so much—patients aren’t just numbers. I am Greek Orthodox, but the Jewish foundation means a lot to me. You can tell that the value system is faith based, and it’s part of the healing process.” Sinai will always have a special place in his family’s heart.

Konstantine’s wish is that his gift will inspire hope and faith in others, and he encourages them to consider the legacies they could leave to support the future of top-quality health care in their communities.
